Blackberry Kush The Strain And Why It Was My First Grow

My first grow!

For my very first grow I chose Blackberry Kush Auto Feminized seeds a.k.a. Auto Fem’s from Dutch Passion Seed Company. There’s a lot in that name so let me break down all the fun facts of BlackBerry Kush, and why I chose it as my first strain.

Blackberry Kush is an Indica leaning hybrid, that was created by crossing Afghani Kush (yum) and Blackberry (double yum!). Blackberry Kush has a very high Myrcene content which is believed to help give this strain it’s amazing pain-relieving ability. This strain also has high levels of caryophyllene and limonene. All three of those terpenes have traits that help relieve pain and reduce swelling, which is perfect for my crochety old arthritic ass. When this grow hits it starts right behind your eyes and washes over your whole body until you are deeply relaxed. I wouldn’t suggest Blackberry Kush for anyone who cant handle a serious body relaxation because you will be stuck to your couch, lol.

Flavor wise this strain packs a berry gassy punch to the face. The smell leans more toward the fresh mixed berries. My grow was super fluffy, and resembled an outdoor sativa grow, but still had some striking visual indica properties.  So far, I have tried this in a joint, bowl, bong, and vaporizer and its beautiful every way. My favorite way to consume BlackBerry Kush is in a nice clean bowl, but everyone fancies their own thing.

As my first grow this was a struggle. I started with 3 seedlings in 3 air pots, by the end I had 2 and mid-way I thought Id have none. Growing is fun but complicated for the newbie. I found out less is more, and thankfully was able to save my plants and still have a decent harvest.

In the 3rd week of flower my plants started to soak up all the nutrients and wound up starving for them. It seemed to happen overnight, but the warning signs were there had I known what to look for.  I have created a little video montage of the grow start to finish. Pay attention and you can see where the issues started, hint it was right before flower and the flowering stage just made the issue significantly worse.

I can honestly tell you I learned more than I ever thought. I found how to not be a helicopter mom. And that despite what the grow books and blogs tell you, you need to know your own plants, their medium and how your space will affect your plants. Honestly, your first grow in a new space should be your science experiment. Test your conditions and see what that space demands. Take notes and pay attention, I promise your plants will tell you what they need and when they need it.

***Also, don’t be afraid of sticking your whole fucking hand in the pot to be sure the medium is sufficiently dry before watering***

This Blackberry Kush was chosen because it’s a great strain for beginners to start with. Its hearty and can tolerate a lot from the novice plant parent. It takes this strain about 8 weeks to flower, and once in flower can be pushed up to 10 more weeks with the right conditions. Blackberry Kush isn’t known for its high yields, but it is known for its high THC content, its analgesic properties, and its beautiful purple nugs with bright orange hairs.

Give this strain a try and you are sure to be pleased 😊
